book review: love unwritten by lauren asher (lakefront billionaires #2)
booktok romance reviews: #5
what made me fuzzy:
this story really about love, loss, relationships and overcoming your biggest fears. if there is anything that i have taken away from ellie and rafael - it is to not be afraid to wholeheartedly love yourself. this message in particular had stuck to me, and i don’t think that i will ever get over it. although my first time reading a single dad x nanny romance, the way the trope was so beautifully written and executed made me forget i was even reading one to begin with.
what i adored:
drawing the parallels between rafael and his son nico had honestly made me smile, and cry sometimes. their relationship has inevitably reflected how ellie’s relationship with rafael developed. this is something so greatly executed. nothing can tell me otherwise about how sweet ellie was to nico, but also to rafael with her never ending patience. even with rafael firing ellie once, i could see why he eventually had regretted his decision of firing her to begin with.
what i disliked:
there wasn’t much that i could point out, though it would be nice to see if nico had any sort of scene with him seeking closure and accepting the strained relationship with his mother. i do believe that it would have somewhat of a difference to the story. but nonetheless, that is something i somewhat disliked.
what could be executed better:
i do think that there could have been more clarity in regards to ellie’s and rafael’s parallels when it comes to romantic relationship. even though it has been implicitly depicted in the book, it wasn’t exactly made clear and that could have had more depth to it.
what could have been added:
referring to my previous answers, i do think that it would have been nice to elaborate on certain details skimmed over. but other than that, there’s not much to say.
thoughts about the characters:
ellie and rafael were emotionally unapologetic, raw, honest and depicted in a way that wrenches your heart. both of them were honestly devastatingly beautiful not just in their looks. but in the way that they grew as people, which was stunning to see. even more, their character development was excellently crafted. this didn’t just feel like the box standard single dad x nanny romance. but it was witnessing the wonderful journey of two deeply hurt individuals finding their way to each other. and they were heartwarming in so many different ways.
thoughts about the execution of the plot:
this book honestly had captured the essence of the dedication perfectly. even the blurbs on the back of the book were stunning because it captured ellie and rafael without giving too much away. most importantly, this book felt like a nod to all the romcoms ever made that might have included a hot billionaire single dad and the nanny he falls in love with. everything about the book had made my emotions and heart go through so many things. i’m gonna need atleast 6 months to recover from the heartache.
overall opinion:
based on everything that i already had touched upon? this was arguably the perfect book to read if you love a fmc and a mmc who are deeply hurt yet misunderstood. single dad x nanny? small town romance? opposites attract? grumpy x sunshine? she fell first but he fell harder? UH YES PLEASE! this book has everything and anything that i could ever ask for, and i am so glad that i was able to read it.
final thoughts:
all i can say is: i need a rafael lopez EXPEDITIOUSLY. no questions asked.
